Schuster Group, Partners Awarded State Honor for Historic Weyerhaeuser Building Restoration
Published September, 20, 2025
Everett, WA — 9/18/2025 — The Schuster Group is proud to be recognized alongside the Port of Everett and NGMA Group with the Outstanding Rehabilitation – Valerie Sivinski Award from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation for the restoration of the Weyerhaeuser Office Building in Everett, Snohomish County.
Constructed in 1923, the Weyerhaeuser Office Building was built entirely of Pacific Coast timber to showcase the beauty, strength, and versatility of Weyerhaeuser lumber. The structure was designed to demonstrate that wood could be used to create buildings that were both beautiful and practical. Weyerhaeuser vacated the property in 1983 and later donated the building to the Port of Everett.
In 2023, after a careful and comprehensive rehabilitation effort, the building reopened to the public as The Muse Whiskey & Coffee- a coffee shop by day and a speakeasy-inspired whiskey bar by night. From the beginning, NGMA Group recognized the importance of preserving and restoring this historic landmark so that the community could continue to enjoy its rich history and architectural legacy.
The Schuster Group served as Owner Representative and Project Manager for the rehabilitation and construction, working closely with the Port of Everett and NGMA Group, and hiring Graham Construction to facilitate a re-envisioned purpose for this proud historic structure. Every member of the project team contributed to the shared goal of honoring the building’s heritage while ensuring its continued relevance and use within the community.
The Valerie Sivinski Award celebrates exemplary achievements in historic preservation across Washington State. The recognition underscores the dedication and craftsmanship that went into restoring one of Everett’s most beloved historic structures, ensuring it remains a point of pride for future generations.

Weyerhaeuser Company executives stand in front of their office building at its second location at Mill Site B, circa 1940s.

Today, the Weyerhaeuser Office Building is home to The Muse Whiskey & Coffee – a vintage coffee bar by day and 1920s speakeasy-inspired whiskey bar by night – after a multi-million-dollar restoration effort by the Port of Everett and NGMA Group.
